Allegory is a type of literary device where the characters, plot, setting and etc. are used to represent ideas and concepts. Through the book Animal Farm allegory is used to represent the Russian government at the time. It showed to the readers that the Russian communism is like the government in the book, harsh, cruel, and to sum it up they both had tyrants. Allegory is a good tool to help the reader understand a concept because it gives an example in which they can relate to. In the author's own words he stated that the people of Europe did not understand the Russian government well and so he made Animal Farm as a means to resolve this problem. The characters in the book were also made to represent political figures in the Russian revolution. In example the character Napoleon can be related to Joseph Stalin as they both came into power through violent means and from there become tyrants. Dang does everything i write sound monotone? Hah writing for academic reasons is just no fun.

Blog post #4

The statement by Squealer is in my opinion hypocritical. Would it not be easy just to allow the animals to listen to Napoleon's point of view and from there decide democratically on their actions? Even though these animals might be a bit dull, they still are considered "equal" by the commandments so they have the right to voice their opinions and decide for themselves their future paths. What Napoleon is doing though is justifying his role of tyrant by saying that his motives were to help the farm animals and not simply for his own interest in power. I think (being captain obvious here hah) that Napoleon is using Squealer as a form of propaganda to convince the farm animals that there is nothing wrong with Napoleon taking full control of the farm. One could relate this (Captain obvious) to Joseph Stalin and his control of Russian media.

Qualities of a good leader

In my opinion, intelligence is a must when it comes to leading. Having intelligence often means that you can choose the right decision during a decisive moment and overall benefit the team. There are some other qualities necessary for leadership though, such as assertiveness and wisdom. In our Animal Farm group we chose it leader by looking at these same qualities. I for one wanted someone who could be smart enough to make good decisions and someone who is serious about their work in class.

What I'm thankful for??

Ah thanksgiving is nearing and what is this?  LOOKS LIKE A PARAGRAPH ON THANKFULNESS >:D
This year I have plenty to be thankful for. The first one i should mention is music. Without it I believe my concentration in practically ALL my classes would drop dramatically. Second would be my friends and the water polo team. Thanks to them I was able to break out of the 7 hours a day of gaming and become much healthier. Without my friends I would've never joined any type of sport. Seriously though, do you know how hard it is for a person who has been a nerd/geek for their whole life to make that decision? So for this year I have my friends and music to be thankful for. NOW YOU MAY BE WONDERING, why didn't he mention his family or the things he is so lucky to have? Well thank you for asking and the truth is, I am thankful for my family and whatnot but that's seriously one of the most common answers during thanksgiving and I'm too cool to be mainstream >:D.
